Are you planning a wedding or a family shoot and have questions about photography?
You’re not alone!
This page is meant to help answer some of the most common questions about my wedding and family photography. From what to expect from your photographer to tips for choosing the right one, I’ve got you covered!
How do I book you as our wedding photographer?
Simply fill out my contact form available in the contact tab and I will let you know my availability and packages to suit. We will then book a pre-consultation and chat about your wedding day in more detail!
Do you offer wedding photography packages based on coverage?
Yes, I do!
You can choose to have me for either a full day, half a day or even something in between!
I also offer hourly coverage for some off-peak dates.
What kind of family photography do you offer?
My family photography is very relaxed and natural; I am not a 'look in the camera and smile' sort of photographer and focus more on natural family connections and raw, candid moments. This means, if you choose me as your wedding photographer, you're in for loads of fun and laughter, which will help us create the most beautiful and genuine snaps of your family.
How long does the newborn session take?
Newborn session lasts between 2-4 hours, this includes all feeding / changing breaks.
I always allow every baby to have as many feeding breaks as they need and always place them safely in the most comfortable positions, they normally fall asleep within a few minutes once I wrap them up and once they're settled I slowly change the set-ups and props to create as varied gallery as possible. Please note that with all this said, newborn babies cannot be pushed or forced into positions where they are not comfortable. I will do my best to fulfil your wishes with your baby's safety and comfort in mind first.
When do IÂ schedule a newborn session?
As soon as possible. It's normally best around the 20 week scan.
This is because I can only schedule so many sessions in a month and I have to be flexible to allow for early and late arrivals.
You should still get in touch even if your baby is already here as every now and then I allow an extra session, all depending on the current schedule.
Where does a newborn session take place?
At your home. Being in a familiar environment will keep your newborn in a much more relaxed state. The warmth of your home and the love for your family will show in the images especially during lifestyle sessions.
For styled sessions I set up a small studio (usually in a living room) for a beanbag and a small backdrop with your chosen props. With lifestyle sessions I just bring my camera and a few accessories such as neutral wraps / headbands and focus on photographing baby with their home surroundings such as nursery, living room or family garden (weather permitting).
How long does a maternity session take and where does it take place?
It takes around up to an hour. Within this time I ensure to capture as beautiful photographs of your and your baby belly as possible including photos of your partner and any siblings if you wish.
This takes place on location which we both plan and both agree on in advance.
When is the best time to photograph a newborn baby?
Anywhere between 4-14 days.
This is the time when they sleep the most and it's easier to position them in adorable curly poses and wrap them up. They often lose their 'newborn look' and sleep a little bit less after this time therefore it's important to do it as soon as possible.
How should we dress for our family session?
For an outdoor session it’s best to avoid the cluttered looks, bright stripes, writings or strong patterns. It doesn’t mean that patterns don’t work for a photography shoot, but for the most part, patterns are generally distracters. Your look should be as natural as possible and able to blend with the background. The colours you all wear must coordinate, not match.
Best way is to start with the youngest and pull colors from their outfit to dress and layer everyone else.
We don’t really like posing, is that ok?
Sure! I don’t like posing either. Whilst I’ll shoot some portraits with you (if you want me to), the portraits are more about photographing the real connection between the two of you on your wedding day. I would say these are directed rather than posed. I’m not really the type of photographer who will ask you to smile at the camera. As your photographer, it’s my job to help you to look good in the photos, which can only be achieved if you relax and are able to be yourselves. I will help you to do this. Also, I don’t take hours for portraits as I prefer to create a few great images rather than a ton of average ones.
Do you use a specific technique or innovative approach?
I use both traditional techniques and creative. All depends on the venue, lighting, weather and couple’s willingness.
How many hours should I book a wedding photographer?
It depends on what you need and what you can afford. Average coverage is 10 hours, this would allow from bridal preparation through to the evening dancing. It depends on your timetable, in some cases 12 hours is necessary, you might just as well be happy with 7 if you don't want me to capture your evening celebrations or more across multiple days or even less if you prefer just some of bridal preparations and ceremony only. This is why I give you a choice of packages (weddings tab) with various coverage to suit your own needs.
Do you deliver all photos / RAW files?
No. Only choose the best ones.
RAW photos stay with me also.
Why? First and foremost for copyright. The RAW files means I can keep control of the ownership of the original. As soon as the RAW file is out in the wild it becomes impossible to control. There would be nothing stopping somebody from claiming the pictures were theirs and making a portfolio. This protects photographers as creators and it also protects you, meaning images of your special occasion don’t end up in the hands of someone else without your permission.
We keep them, no exceptions.
Often I take multiple images in a sequence and then send the client the best one. My cameras sometimes bounce off of my waist and take a picture of the floor and sometimes, it’s down to the artist, to disclose the best version of their product.
It’s also worth mentioning that RAW files are useless to 99.9% of the population, you can’t open them without dedicated image editing software.
Are you insured?
I am! I have a Public Liability Insurance up to £1,000,000 for each and every claim or loss. I also have a back up equipment and Professional Indemnity Insurance.
What happens if you are unwell and can’t make our wedding?
Whilst I know photographers who have been in this situation (because I’ve stood in for them), I’ve never (touch wood) missed a wedding in my 7-year career as a wedding photographer. I have my jabs, keep fit and look after myself, that’s all I can do. I guess it may happen in the future, but rest assured that I have a good insurance policy and I’m part of a network of amazing photographers, many of whom would stand in for me if I couldn’t attend your wedding. The success of my business is based on my reputation, and as such, It would be hugely important to me to ensure that your wedding was photographed to the very best standards by someone with a similar style of photography.
What equipment do you use?
Yes. I have two quiet, mirrorless Nikon cameras and lenses on my person all day as well as a back up camera and additional lenses in my bag just in case.
I want to book a family photoshoot, but not sure if my kids will enjoy the experience?
I know you might be feeling slightly nervous at the thought of a family photoshoot, wondering whether your kids will behave etc., but I promise you'll change your mind the moment you turn up to it! :)
Think of it as a fun hour out of your busy lives where you can reconnect with each other, with no work, devices or homework to disturb you. Once you relax into the experience, it’s full of giggles, and you’ll soon get used to the camera snapping away.
I will give you gentle prompts throughout the session so you never feel uncomfortable, or are left wondering what to do with your hands!
